I am back....again.

It seems this whole blogging thing has got the best of me. I knew it was time to start again when my rather....not young Professor said that she had started blogging and would like us all to start a blog for the semester about diversity. This is when I knew I should maybe start blogging again. After all this is a Professor that could barely figure out how to turn a television on last year, she has clearly improved immensely. So here we go again..again!!!!LOL.

SO I got thinking the other day..

Where on earth do some of the saying/phrases come from?
So I decided to look up their origin, and here you have it:

Happy as a clam ---> an open clam looks like it is smiling

It's raining cats and dogs ---> back in the early 1800's cats and dogs would hide up in the rafters, when it rained or stormed they often fell down

Step over the threshold ---> this was tradition for the groom because it would bring good luck for the res of their marriage due to the extra step the new bride did NOT have to take (.............. jeepers.... well I guess every step counts)

Kettle of fish ---> in hopes of entertaining and befriending neighbours one would boil a kettle down by the river and throw in some salmon or commonly found fish to eat.

Spill the beans ---> Beans were used a WAY back in the day of ancient Greece as a type of voting system. If the vote was negative then the black beans were spilled and if the voted was positive then the  white beans were spilled. BUT if any of the beans were spilled by accident before the vote has come to an end then the vote does not occur ( it was thought of to be bad luck)

*Some of these may be true and some just myths past down from generation to generation. There are TONS of these meanings/ origins available on the internet.
Try a phrase!
